2/16 Adrenaline Bikes Charity BBQ

Whew, a week off the bike, so sad......I managed to get in 2 days of one armed weight training and an hour ride on the trainer this week, along with a one-armed Pilates class. As most of you know, the only time the dogs get to go on an outing, is when momma is injured.

So off we went to the STR/Adrenaline Bikes Charity BBQ & Ride (unoffcial of course). I drug Roger and made him ride his bike and I brought the dogs and we went hiking. It was a great time with great friends. Oh, and Roger got volunteered for the tire inflating contest and came home with a new 2008 XT Crankset for his efforts. The proceeds of the raffle went to High Hopes Head Injury Program, a local charity.

2/9-10 Shimano Winter Series #3 and my brush with a tree

Well my goal started out to be skipping the XC race and trying 4x. I practiced at Fontana on Friday with Sharky and Bob and felt pretty good.

However my husband, Roger had other ideas. He decided that 4x would interfere too much with DH practice, so I left the 4x bike at home Saturday and off we went to practice. Had some good runs, and then in the afternoon, I managed to snag the one and only tree on the course and then was catapulted into a pile of rocks off the side of the course. When I got I up I noticed a good amount of blood running down my arm, so I head down the paved road post haste and to the First Aid station. After the medic cleaned it, he said I needed stiches so I off to urgent care I went.

We managed to get there a few minutes before it closed, but there were several people ahead of us. So I waited in the treatment room while Roger lounged in the lobby watching videos. He had fallen earlier in the day and got a good contusion and cut on his shin so I made him have the Doctor check his to see if he needed any stiches too! After an hour or so, the Doctor came in and checked my wound and decided that he would be able to stich it there (thank goodness). Donny's wife had told me earlier that it looked like a "bucket tear" and thought they would have to butterfly it. 22 stiches later I was sent home and told not to use the arm for 10-12 days!!! The Doctor did say it was okay to ride the trainer with one hand.  I also checked in with my coach, and he said to continue my weight training using 1 arm only.

1/26-27 Shimano Winter Series #2

Saturday I decided to race XC again to see if I could better my time. I turned in a 1:53 which was 6 seconds better than the previous race!! Sadly, there were only 3 in my class this time as opposed to 7 from the previous race.

Sunday there were 11 women in the Pro Women's DH class. I ended up 9th. I had a smooth run in both the top and bottom sections but just didn't have enough legs left to sprint the wall which kept me off the podium. Hmmm, I wonder if this had anything to do with racing XC the day before???

See you all in 2 weeks for round 3!

1/13/08 - 2008 Winter Series #1 DH

So, I got to start off the Pro Women's class. We had 9 contestents which was awesome since the class usually runs 3 to 5 on average. Off I went remembering to start in a higher gear and to upshift before every corner and uphill. Got to the rock jump, stayed low, sucked it up racer style, landed and got blown over. Had to jump off the bike and run up the saddle and then remount. I knew at that point I was not in the running for a podium spot, but as my coach taught me it's all about personal best. So I pedaled my butt off for the rest of the race, sprinted the finsih and was happy to have had a safe race with no damage done.
